THE CLIFFS
The cliffs at Presles are a famous centre for rock climbing, with a vertical drop of 300 metres and over 300 equipped climbs, and include some of the most beautiful rock walls in the Vercors. Arranged in a semi-circle from Pont-en-Royans to Rencurel, they form a magnificent cirque dominating and sheltering the site of Choranche and giving it an exceptional setting.
Wildlife :
Rich and varied animal life.
All the wild animals in the Vercors can be found in the Choranche cirque: chamois, deer, foxes, badgers, wild boars and birds of prey such as the golden eagle, peregrine falcon, lesser kestrel, eagle owl or tawny owl.
Plant life.
Thanks to the cliffs that face due south Choranche enjoys a beneficial micro-climate and is home to plants of Mediterranean nature: box, oak, durmast oak, etc... |

Cliffs are the special feature of the Vercors. The mountain range lies encircled by over 300 km of cliffs, making it into a veritable citadel.
In 1990 the cirque around the Choranche caves hosted the French Junior Rock-climbing Championships. |
